We will be making fully stocked baby baskets for impoverished new moms. We will also be making hygiene kits.

South Sarasota County - Myakkahatchee Environmental Park

Activity/responsibility:
We will be clearing out brush and palm fronds, raising the canopy, and cutting back or pulling out overgrown briars.
Tools or skills required:
Bring hoes, chainsaws, machetes, spade shovels, pruners, clippers, pliers of any kind

Additional Notes:
Bring MOSQUITO REPELLENT. Best to wear long pants and long-sleeve shirts. Working under the “canopy” provides shade, so hat and sunblock aren’t critical. Be sure to pack a lunch.
All volunteers will need to sign a release from the City of North Port PRIOR to the event. Please download & sign the attached form AND give to Greg Scott ASAP. Parents will need to sign a form for each child who volunteers.

Highlands County - Habitat for Humanity

Activity/responsibility:
This day will begin with a ground breaking ceremony and will continue with the raising of walls for Highland County’s first 2-story home for Habitat for Humanity.
Tools or skills required:
Bring work gloves, water, hat and sunscreen. Please wear appropriate shoes as this is an active construction site.

16+
Additional Notes:
This home will be built with self insulated panels and will be considered a “green” build.
No building skills are required for volunteers. If you have a desire to learn and want to see what the future of building for Highlands County Habitat holds, join us on this day.

Sarasota County - Crowley Museum and Nature Center

14 miles east of Interstate 75 on Fruitville Road, turn south (right) on Verna Road, which becomes Myakka Road. The Museum and Nature Center is located 3 miles south of Fruitville on the left side of the road. (The Nature Center is well marked).
Activity/responsibility:
Boardwalk: Replacement of bad boards on 1.5 mile walkway. Nature Center to provide supervision. Bad boards to be marked with orange spray paint. The new board will be cut by nature center people. We will remove bad boards and take to the dumpster. We will carry new board to location needed and install them. Workers should bring hammers and/or crowbars. Nails to be provided by the Nature Center.
School House Finishing: Work to be supervised. Trusses added, shingles added and floor repaired. Nature Center to provide nails, ladders, work stations and etc. Workers to bring hammers.
Maintenance Area Clean-Up: Area is approximately 1 acre in size. Supervision provided by the Nature Center. Old things to be removed and taken to the dumpster will be marked with Orange spray. Weeds and vines cut and removed, raking area, tools to bring: shovels, rakes, and loppers.
Gardening Planting: Nature Center to provide supervision. Tools to bring rakes, shovels, etc.
Museum Clean Up: TBD
Office Areas: Cleaned and Organized
General Clean Up of Park
Tools or skills required:
All workers should wear long pants, hat, and good shoes. Work gloves are suggested. Bring hammers, rakes, shovels, and etc. The Nature Center also will also provide tools. Extra tools will not hurt.

Manatee County - A day at the Community Coalition for the Homeless

Projects to include: Helping in the kitchen, Laundry service, Cleaning, Lawn maintenance, Power washing, Painting.

Children ages 6-11 will meet at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3400 Cortez Rd, Bradenton, FL at 8:30am so parents can be at the ‘One Stop’ building to start work at 9am sharp. The children will be assembling personal needs bags and food bags for the homeless during the hours of service for ages 12 to 100. The children will be learning about the homeless and how they live. This will be an educational and rewarding event for all who participate. A nursery will be provided for those who pre-register for ages 18 months - 5 years old. Please pack a sack lunch for all children, a snack will be provided. The children will present the bags they make to the ‘One Stop’ facility at the end of our service hours.
