Location and Time:

9 AM to 2 PM

Activity/responsibility:

The project for this year Day of Service for the Fort Myers Stake - Florida is reaching out into the community and linking arms with other churches to help beautify the community of Immokalee. There are lots of people in Immokalee that need help in so many ways.

Our church just broke ground for a new building in Immokalee and we thought it would be perfect timing to meet the leaders and members from other churches and introduce ourselves to the community. After the project is completed, we are going to meet at the church site for a luncheon and photos with the media and a return and report session.

We are asking leaders from 12 of the larger churches in Immokalee to pick one of their congregations that needs yard work and a paint job on their home.  We will ask their church to do the yard work and we will have two crews of ten, for each house, with crew chiefs, that will prepare the homes for painting and paint the house. We are asking our Branch President in the Immokalee to identify 3 homes to paint and cleanup.  We plan on painting and cleaning up 15 homes in Immokalee.

The young Women of the stake are going to make 100 hygiene kits for the Abused Women Shelter in Immokalee and the Primary children of the stake are going to make baskets for the families of those we are going to paint, with items to help make a house a Home.

All members of the Ft. Myers Stake as well as those of other faiths are invited to bring a friend and come help paint on this Day of Service. We anticipate 300 people painting and preparing the homes – 150 people doing yard work – 75 YW making kits and about 100 Primary children making baskets – 50 people preparing food and serving and many others behind the scenes helping out. Our goal is to have over 700 people involved.

We are planning a February kick off Fireside, where we show last years fishing with the special need people video and get everyone energized and excited about participating in the worth while service project. We currently have 20 members in the DOS Committee, plus we will be adding one from each unit to make sure it happens in the wards. The event will be held from 9 AM to 2 PM on the 24th of April.
