A community garden was planted to benefit the Macclenny Senior Citizens Center and the main courtyard at Baker County High School was landscaped and beautified.

Macclenny High School / Community Garden / Welcome to Maclenny Sign

Location and Time:

Baker County High School, U.S. 90 Welcome to Macclenny Sign, Community Garden. April 24th. Times TBA.

Activity/responsibility:

1) Welcome to Macclenny sign(s):  We will be cleaning it up,  re-lettering, and doing some landscaping to it.  This is in conjunction with our partners, the Baker County Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Macclenny.
2). Work on beautification of the main courtyard at Baker County High School.  Have met with the Supt. of Schools, the Principal and Vice Principal of the High School as well as the teacher of the Agricultural and Horticultural classes.  The teacher is working up some CAD design work along with a listing of preferred plants that would be best for the area. Our partners on this project are the Baker County School Board, the Baker County High School,  Administration, Faculty, Staff and students, the Jr.ROTC organization as well as local nursery vendors.
3)  Community Garden:  A one to 2 acre site for a Community Garden to provide fresh vegetables for our Sr. Center, and some low income families.  Presently, the site selection is nearly nailed down and plans are moving forward begin site work in the next couple of weeks.  Much of the site prep and actual planting will be done weeks before our 4/24 date due to optimum planting time schedules.  However on the Saturday of 4/24, we will be having a work day of weeding and garden tending and plenty to keep us busy.  Our partners for this project are: the Baker County Road Department,  Board of County Commissioners,  Baker County Sheriffs Department, The Baker County Council on Aging , youth from Baker County High School.
