Bereavement Gowns for Newborms
Name of Organization:
Osceola Heritage Park
Location and Time:
We look forward to working alongside you on Saturday, April 24th, between 9 am and 3 pm at Osceola Heritage Park - 2145 East US Highway 192, in Kissimme, Florida.
Activity/responsibility:
This is an opportunity to offer support and kindness to grieving parents.
More often than many of us like to imagine, children are born deceased or live only a very short time before passing away. As a gift to the families, we will be providing clothing for those infants. These tiny babies will be presented to their parents in the clothing that we make at this event. The clothing will be donated to Florida Hospital and the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies.
While sewing these garments is imperative, volunteers will also be needed to cut fabric, iron, and package the gowns.
A light luncheon will be served.
Tools or skills required:
Each ward (congregation) needs to provide:
2 sewing machines (or one sewing machine and one serger) loaded with white thread
1 ironing board and iron
3 extension cords
1 power strip
Ages:
Other than nursing infants, children should not attend this event.
Additional Notes:
At least 3 people from each ward (congregation) are needed to assist as leaders. Their having some sewing experience would be ideal. They will act as supervisors and help the volunteers. These individuals will need to be available for some meetings before hand for training and preparation.
Patterns will be disseminated before the event for familiarity.
While participants are welcomed for the entire time of 9 am to 3 pm, smaller sessions from 9 am to noon and noon to 3 pm are also available.

Brush of Kindness
Name of Organization:
Osceola County Habitat for Humanity
Location and Time:
You are invited to join us on Saturday, April 24th at 7:30 am at the Osceola County Habitat for Humanity Office (also known as the ReStore facility) at 2340 North Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee, Florida.
Activity/responsibility:
This event has two major focuses.
1. Several homes have been identified as needing extensive beautification and repairs. We will improve their appearance through pressure washing, painting, weeding, cutting back shrubbery, and completing small maintenance projects.
Individual wards (congregations) have been assigned specific homes to improve. Contact persons within those wards are to review the particular sites. Those contact persons will have more information available about necessary tools and skill sets that would be welcome. Work at individual home locations will be varied and plentiful. Your ward’s Captain will be able to best direct you on how your abilities will be utilized at that site. Due to the variety and nature of the projects, these are ideal worksites for those aged 6 and older.
2. At the main Habitat Offices - also known as the ReStore facility - circumstances allow us to paint and relocate donations in order to improve overall aesthetics and better organize this philanthropy.
Those wishing to stay at the ReStore facility should expect to paint and to move hefty donations that have been left at the site. The work at this venue is most appropriate for those aged 12 and above.
No childcare will be provided at any location, so parental supervision is required at all times.
No matter if you wish to serve at the main Habitat office or at an individual home, please meet at 7:30 am at 2340 North Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee. There, we will be given comprehensive details about the day’s work. Additionally, we look forward to meeting all together again (at the same location) at 1:30 pm for a bar-be-cue lunch.
Tools or skills required:
Please arrive in work clothes and closed toed shoes. Tools including saws, paint brushes, paint rollers, gloves, and yard tools will be essential. Advanced communication with your local Captain will ensure all necessary supplies arrive at the sites.
Ages:
Children aged 6 and older will be welcomed at home sites. Ages 12 and up may work at the ReStore office.
Additional Notes:
Opportunities to collaborate with other businesses and sponsors would be most welcome. Sponsors and volunteerism will ensure this event is a success. Please pass along flyers to your neighbors and co-workers. If you have the ability to write grants or obtain donations, please contact your ward’s Day of Service Representatives immediately.
