Buchanan Flowers on the Square

Name of Organization:

Buchanan, Georgia

Location and Time:

April 24th   9 am - noon   meet at the town square

Activity/responsibility:

We will be cleaning and replanting the hanging baskets and large planters around the square.  Two service sites have been selected for clean up and planting flowers to beautify the city. 

Tools or skills required:

Please bring your gloves, tools (spades and hand trowels) and a friend.

Ages:

People of any age, from any church, and/or from any service organization are invited to participate.

This project will be done away from the main project (Burruss).  Workers will meet at Burruss Elementary School for the Event Kick Off and then travel to each site.
Illegal Dumpsite Cleanup – Merrit Rd, near Lockheed Elementary School

Activity/responsibility:

Remove trash dumped illegally dumped on the side of the road.

Tools or skills required:

o             Provided – Garbage Bags and Bins
o             Workers – 15 to 20
o             Tools – Shovels, Rakes

Plant 4 to 5 4’x8’ prefabricated raised vegetable gardens for seniors and disabled.

· Nature Trail Clearing – Clear and cut down overgrowth in the Nature Trail down by the creek.  Some plants will be marked with visible tape, (keep, trim or remove).  This project has room to grow as big as we want to make it.  Special concerns would be to watch for Poison Ivy.

Tools or skills required:

o             Provided – Trash Bags
o             Special Skills – People Management, Chain Saw Safety
o             Workers – 40 to 60
o             Tools – Shovels, Rakes, Hoe, Clippers, Loppers, Hedgers, Hand Saws
o             Special Tools – Chain Saws 2-3

· Guard Rails – Construct 10-15’ guard rail to protect children from the creek and extend stage guard rail approximately 10-15’ to prevent children from going behind stage.

o             Special Skills – Wood Construction
o             Workers – 4 to 6
o             Tools – Hammer, Drill, Measuring Tape, etc.
o             Special Tools – Chop Saw, Posthole Digger.

· Vegetable Gardens - Plant 1 or 2 8’x8’ vegetable garden to where children can learn about agriculture and Life Science.  Raised or Tilled gardens not decided yet, suggest using pre-fabricated 4’x8’ kits if they decide on raised gardens.

o             Provided – Soil, Wood or Kit, Hardware.
o             Special Skills – Gardening
o             Workers – 8 to 10
o             Tools – shovels, rakes, hoe.
o             Special Tools – Tiller, possible need for wood tools
