Keep Meridian Beautiful

Stake: Hattiesburg, MS Stake

Community Partners: City of Meridian Parks and Recreation
Organization Served: City of Meridian
Influencers: Kevin Locke, City of Meridian Planning director
Total people involved: 30
Total volunteer hours: 45

Original plan was to plant 35 16’ trees at the Velma E Young Park located in Meridian, MS. After two weeks of postponement an alternate plan “C” was made. On Thursday May 6, 2010 at 5pm, the Meridian Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints hauled away roughly 12 adult size trees that needed to be removed from the Velma E Young Park. Kevin Locke had previosly coordinated with a tree crew to down the trees, of which we moved off the park lawn uphill to a place where a hauling truck could pick up the lumber for removal.
The work was greatly appreciated.  “It’s hard to find good help these days.” Kevin Locke, City Planning
