Durham Proclamation
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a long history of providing humanitarian services in response to emergencies and natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, the Church has been challenged by its leaders to extend the same service to those in need during times other than emergencies, and
WHEREAS, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has established a Day of Service, with a mission to link arms with citizens of all faiths, civic organizations, and government agencies, to strengthen local communities with meaningful service projects that will help those in need, beautify communities, build friendships, and bolster the spirits of all; and WHEREAS, on the Day of Service, Durham members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will perform such labors of love in our community on April 24, 2010.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, William V. “Bill” Bell, Mayor of the City of Durham, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 24, 2010 as
“DAY OF SERVICE”
in Durham, and hereby urge all citizens to take special note of this observance.
