Multi-city food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina; collected nearly 24,000 pounds of non-perishable donations at 5 community drop-off sites on Saturday, April 28th, 2012.  Each family was encouraged to take at least 10 bags to their neighbors and friends.  Catawba food drive to benefit the Catawba Indian Nation as well as a cemetery clean-up adjacent to the meetinghouse.  In addition to a food drive, various service projects were completed at the Matthews Help Center: power wash office building and shed, clean rockers on front porch, mow and trim bushes and pill weeds, clean five large trash can, wash inside and out large van, clean windows inside and out of the entire building, new potting soil an plants for front porch and hanging baskets for back porch, many small repairs to inside of building, patch holes in walls, paint walls and fix doors knobs, changed light bulbs (handy man type repairs).  Two Eagle scout projects are planned in May - stepping stone path and building shelves.  At HOPE of Lancaster County, volunteers cleaned, organized, put food on shelves, unboxed food, moved food as well as setting up some DVD players and watering plants.
