Shirts and Pants Collection Drive for Migrant Farmers

Shirts and pants were collected to be donated to the Episcopal Farms Workers Ministry for protection for the migrant farmers while working in the fields.  Members of the Stake searched for clothing within their own homes and canvassed their neighborhoods for additional donations.  Hundreds of shirts and pants were collected.

Baucom Elementary School Beautification

School grounds were weeded, bushes trimmed back, and mulch spread.  The result was a beautification of the school grounds

Hygiene Kits Assembly

Wards within the stake were given individual assignments to donate materials to assemble hygiene kits for the migrant farm workers and Bishop’s Storehouse.  The materials were assemble on the Day of Service at the Stake Center and at the Garner Ward Building by the primary aged children.  A goal of 500 kits was surpassed with a total number of 650 kits being assembled.

Apex Blood Drive - April 22, 2010

Apex Stake Center was used as a blood collection center in the afternoon through evening of April 22, 2010.  The turnout was impressive with 116 people pre-registering for the event and more people showing up as walk ins.  A total of 87 pints of blood were collected.  Of people who showed up to donate 53 were first time donors which was fantastic showing.  The American Red Cross would like to thank the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints for the overwhelming turnout of willing blood donors on Thurs Apr 22nd

Quilting Kits Assembly

Activity/responsibility:

Quilting kits are going to be assembled and distributed to the various wards throughout the Stake.  During the course of 2010-2011 leading into next year’s Day of Service quilts will be made for distribution to area hospitals and nursing homes.  This year will result in over 70 quilts made during the past year distributed to a local area hospital and nursing home.

Shirts and Pants Collection Drive for Migrant Farmers

Collection of pants and long sleeve shirts to take place prior to the Day of Service - Sorting, assembly, and delivery to take place on Day of Service April 24, 2010 start at 8:30 am

Activity/responsibility:

The collection of long sleeve shirts and pants (no denim) is to be used by the Migrant Farmers to help keep pesticides off their bodies and provide protection from the sun.  This is a project that can be taken out to the neighborhoods weeks before the Day of Service and canvass neighborhoods to help in this effort.  Final clothing collected will be brought to the Stake Center for delivery and prepared for delivery to the Episcopal Migrant Farmers Ministry in Dunn, NC.

Hygiene Kits Assembly

590 Bryan Drive, Apex NC - Opening ceremony at 8:30 - project to start after that in the cultural hall (aka the gym)

Activity/responsibility:

Stake members will be collecting the necessary items to make hygiene kits between now and the Day of Service - April 24, 2010.  A list of items needed for the kits has been given to the ward liaisons and a target amount has been assigned to each ward.  On the Day of Service, the items will be assemble into individual kits and boxed - this is a project that has a special emphasis for the primary age kids with parental supervision to participate on the Day of Service. The kits will be distributed to the Episcopal Migrant Farmers Ministry of North Carolina and donated to the Bishop’s Storehouse.  The goal for the stake is 500 kits.

Blood donations will be collected by the American Red Cross at the Apex Stake Center to help those in need. This will occur on Thursday, April 22, 2010 before the Day of Service - April 24, 2010.

The Apex Stake is partnering with the American Red Cross and local churches and community organizations for a blood drive on 4/22/2010 in conjunction with the Day of Service. Please sign-up to donate and encourage others to do the same in your presidencies (if applicable).

SCHEDULE: 3:00-7:45 pm (as long as you are in the door by 7:45 pm, you can donate).

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? It will take about an hour for someone to go through the entire process of donating.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
1. Take US 1 South towards Apex.
2. Take NC 55 towards Apex (heading North).
3. Go under the railroad tracks and cross S. Salem Street.
4. Turn Left on Bryan Dr at the LDS temple.
5. Take an immediate Left into the Church parking lot.The building on the right is the Apex Stake Center.
