The Franklin Day of Service was a success! Our local LDS branch was asked to support food packaging efforts for the people of Haiti. The event was put on by several Rotary Clubs and Stop Hunger Now. Local churches and community organizations were asked to support by sponsoring a table and packaging and weighing. Some 600 volunteers attended over [2] 2hr shifts and the goal of 100,000 meals packaged was achieved.

Location and Time:

192 Industrial Park Rd.
Franklin, NC 28734

Activity/responsibility:

We are teaming up with two local Rotary clubs and an organization called Stop Hunger Now (www.stophungernow.com - see the second video as an example of what we’ll be doing) that help feed the hungry in Haiti and throughout the world. The blessing of this project is that we were invited to participate prior to the earthquake in Haiti. So we now feel a greater need to help. The leader of this project is not the LDS church but a representative of Stop Hunger Now and our local Rotary club. We have been invited, along with many other churches and organizations to participate in a one day food preparation and packaging event. The goal is to package 100,000 meals as a group in one day or 2,000 meals from each organization. The packaging effort will take place on Saturday March 13 at the National Guard Armory in Franklin and we will have many opportunities to rub shoulders with others in our community. Children are also encouraged to attend as runners as we package the food. There will be several two hour shifts so volunteers may serve for two hours or all day long.
