Several members of the Lakefield ward visited the Servant Garden in Oak Ridge to access directions and what equipment and manpower needed to perform the service of cultivating the garden soil for planting vegetables that will be used at the Servant Center to feed the elderly and disabled with the leftovers donated to the other soup kitchens in the Greensboro area. A plan was formed to get a tractor of a member to the garden. On April 24 30 members of the Lakefield and 3 members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church picked up rocks, roots and other debris as the tractor tilled the field. This work was performed for 3 hours. The focus is on planting and harvesting food crops to donate to shelters and food banks to feed the elderly and needy

At 7:30 am Boy Scouts from the Lakefield ward and Gate City branch and their leaders met at the Stake center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and covered the Culture Hall floor with the protective floor cover and help the American Red Cross unload their truck with equipment needed for the blood drive. They also set up the sign-in area, the waiting to give area and the kitchen area for the donors that just gave. Special volunteers helped in each of these areas throughout the day to make sure all donors were taken care of before and after giving blood. We had 80 appointment and several walk-ins and our goal was 70 units. We exceeded our goal by collecting 76 units. Each unit collected has the potential of saving 3 lives. Many hours were spent in advance making sure appointments were made, snacks baked, and thanks to Costco for their donation to help us provide water and snacks and to Odwalla and Brother Hoyte for providing fruit drinks and juice along with fruit and nut bars to help donors replenish fluids before and after giving blood
