Blacknall Cemetery Clean-up, Henderson
Name of Organization:
Blacknall Cemetery and the City of Henderson, Henderson, North Carolina
Location and Time:
Blacknall Cemetery is located on the corner of Hwy 39 and Beckford Drive, Henderson, N.C. 27536
(Interstate 85 to Exit 214 - Follow Hwy 39 South to first traffic light - intersection of Hwy 39 and Beckford Drive, turn left at light and left into the cemetery)
8:00 AM - 11:30 AM on April 24, 2010
Activity/responsibility:
First, the entrance to the cemetery on Gupton Street will be beautified by creating a flower bed in front of the sign. Some soil and organic material such as leaves and grass clippings will be tilled into the soil. Some flowers or bulbs may also be planted.
The dirt covering the older grave sites has settled over the years. We will shovel and rake soil over the sunken sites to level the surface.
Some of the shrubbery and trees in the cemetery will be trimmed.
Trash and debris in the cemetery will be bagged up by volunteers and then hauled away.
Tools or skills required:
It would be helpful if volunteers could bring gloves, shovels, rakes, hoes, limb loppers, chain saws, and wheel barrows.
One or two roto-tillers to till the grass clippings into the soil would also be very helpful.
Bringing water to drink is also a great idea, especially if it is a warm day.
Ages:
No limitation. This is a great family volunteer activity.
