Painting A Homeless Shelter

Hurlburt-Johnson Friendship House in Murphy, NC
Location and Time:
When: We begin at 8am, Saturday, April 24, 2010
Where: The Hurlburt-Johnson Friendship House [Shelter], 73 Blumenthal Street, Murphy, NC 28906
What: Paint the interior of this homeless shelter which can house 30 people.
Activity/responsibility:
We will paint the kitchen, bathrooms, hall, living room, and all the bedrooms of the homeless shelter in eight hours. We hope to clear the grounds and landscape as well.
Tools or skills required:
What to bring? Paint brushes.
Ages:
Appropriate age: 12+
Additional Notes:
With this project we are linking arms with the First United Methodist Church Volunteer Organization, the St. Vincent de Paul (Catholic) Organization, as well as the Cherokee County Ministerial Association. We will be working shoulder to shoulder with volunteers from these community religious organizations, as well as with the residents of the shelter.
The homeless shelter provides a place for residents to receive mail and to live while they look for work. The home works with agencies to help the residents find housing and jobs.
