The Primary children were at the Y.M.C.A. participating in a project where they collected care package items for an Engineering Battalion of one of our ward members currently serving in Afghanistan. They gift wrapped the items, as well as drew pictures, wrote letters and made cards for the servicemen. Four of our members also cleaned our church building during the service project as their gift to the Day of Service.
Email from Cheri Pardue: Still finishing up on some of the Day of Service info. We just spent 12 hours filling out postal forms and boxing all of the donations we collect for Afghanistan. We had a break down when our committee chairman’s baby was born right after and the packages had to be put on hold since it was a special needs baby that had to have surgery.
Not to worry, the daddy dropped the boxes off to me yesterday, and I had to peek into every wrapped package because the PO needed the name of the article, the weight and the cost. My kids and I went on a scavenger hunt through Walmart to find all the prices. I thought the forms had been filled out already, but…they were just laid aside that day. Yikes!
we ended up with 10 flat rate boxes full of articles for the soldiers. They are going in the mail this morning. Hooray!
That part done!
